Flames often flare in my work, symbolizing myriad states of being. I invite you to an online gallery of fire-themed work. Descriptions of each piece and prints and/or originals are available for purchase from my Etsy store by clicking on the artwork title. (Once on the Etsy page, click “see full item details” to the right of image.)

Most of all, my prayer is that this exhibition will spark your own fire of courage in these troubled times.

Fire summons me into all that lies beyond-description. An explosion of light, heat, mystery. At once fearsome, yet utterly good.

Holy Ground; 2014; 22″ x 30″; watercolor and pastel (privately owned).

Fire promises freedom, a burning away of all but knowing and being known.

Free Indeed; 2012; 14″ x 22″; mixed media: watercolor, ink, pastel (privately owned).

Sometimes fire simmers into cinders, barely flickers in sparks…though we long to blaze.

At times, embers fade into a memory, a wistful prayer for courage to burn again…

…an invisible hallelujah in the night.

Then comes the moment when fire flares, like a battle cry igniting from the gut, from the depths of our souls…

…with the power and light to carry us to a place beyond.

There are times fire leaps out of our chest, igniting the world around us in passionate defense of the vulnerable…

…or glowing in a quiet escape of rest and restored strength.

Then there is the moment we escape roaring flames and discover with wonder: we bear the treasure of the One who met us in the furnace.

Out of Flames… (series, #2); 2015; 19.5 x 15.5 ; mixed media: oil-based ink, acrylic, watercolor.

We soar on new wings, forged by the very fire we feared would destroy us.

I long for the tongues of fire first lit on Pentecost to surge through me…

…to light me on fire…

…that I might become all flame…

…to be completely consumed, to become an offering to Him.

But most of all I simply yearn for the One who defies description, the Fire Who hides me in the cleft as His glory passes by…
