Out of Flames… Wings; 2019; 13.5″ x 14.5″; mixed media: sidewalk chalk, graphite, water-soluble crayon, watercolor, acrylic, pastel.
As I began to paint again, irresistibly drawn by “the stronger pull,” an old theme re-surfaces. The idea that out of the fiercest flames of our lives, we are granted wings to fly high – and carry others with us.
The Wings are Mine
Dense winged creature
clawing my chest –
cawing over charred dreams,
Ashes disintegrating.
Still the fire rages.
Somehow.
What is left to burn?
Yet merciless wings fan flames.
Until –
Inexplicable rescue…
Creature beat back,
Forced to lift.
Then –
Transformation.
Bitter black wings melt
into brilliant hope-sparks.
There is always hope.
What is left now –
indestructible,
transcendent.
Now the wings are mine.
I fly high,
Powerfully alive.
Beautiful transformative piece. ❤

Yes, indeed. This seems to be a circular theme in my life. With every new blaze, by the Lord’s grace, I fly new skies of glimpsing more of Him… He’s good that way.

That is really a lovely painting. Full of hope and aspiration. And I love the colours, the tones of blue and red working really well together with the white birds.
