My Gift to the Sky

mist

My child,
you rise
like mist from my heart,
tentative tendrils of hope
birthed in tender trust.

Like dewy grass,
I savor this holy waiting
before dawn,
this sacred dreaming,
this watchful sending.

You, my gift to the sky,
a vastness to claim for your own.

But should the storms
toss you,
threaten to trample through you,
my heart remains
always,
like a crevice in these hills,
a safe place to cling.

For Jacob with love always and forever, senior year 2014/15
