Here am I again,
where circles end,
the dusty place I know
at the end of the road.
I sink to my knees,
furiously dig,
past listless grains
to deeper pack.
Sand, flowing through my fingers,
until I hit something hard, solid.
I grasp it,
wrench it into the light,
hold it up to weak, sinking sun
– hope, I buried like a bone.
A gust scatters clinging
grime across my face.
Gleaming,
it confiscates each setting ray.
Now, with light all its own,
it defies the cutting edge of night.
A strange, shimmering white
– dry bone, come back to life.

Oh, one question: How do you convert your artwork into digital files? Do you take photos with a camera or do you use a scanner?

Most of the time I use a camera – a Nikon DX that has served me well all over the world! For some limited edition fine art prints I have the work scanned at a local gallery – for some work, I can’t seem to get the white balance right.
